May 6th, 1998 - Announcements
------
AITP is the local chapter of the national professional association of CIOs, IS managers, senior staff, academics, vendors, and consultants. We hold monthly dinner meetings with well known and high profile IT related speakers.
The Austin AITP chapter has been serving computer related professionals in Central Texas for many years. We also sponsor student AITP chapters at Southwest Texas State University and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. We were formally known as DPMA.
Our monthly announcement is now being sent by email to interested Austin IT professionals on a city wide basis. Instructions for unsubscribing to this announcement are at the end of this document. We hope this communication will aid you in planning for the events in which you may have an interest. Our email address additions come from subscribe requests and professional referrals only.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
Chalk up another great meeting! Ken Bodeman (Ajilon), Hank Stringer (WorldHire), and Jonathon Hines (Pencom) great us a great panel discussion of the current IT job market in Austin. They also gave us useful advise for candidates to use when job seeking, and for employers to use when hiring. Thanks to all three of you.
Our June 12th meeting will feature Matt Reedy who is the chairman of IntelliSolve. He will cover the nuts and bolts of Data Warehousing. Matt is a nationally known speaker on this topic!
Our meetings are now running about 40 to 50 people. The summer meetings should be even bigger with some very high profile speakers appearing. Please help us to get the word out that this meeting is the best opportunity in Austin to meet all the folks in the city's IT community. Our goal is to have representation from all of Austin's major companies, vendors, placement firms, and universities. So far this has been the mix every month.
As the organization continues to grow, more opportunities are becoming available for involvement. Like to write about technology? Help us with the newsletter. Do you have webmaster skills? Help us with the web site. Do you enjoy networking? Join our calling committee. Do you like to arrange events and seminars? Become our Arrangements Director.
I have included a listing of our current officers and board in this announcement. Feel free to respond to this email if you have an interest, or call one of the phone numbers listed.
I have stated many times that we welcome guests at our meetings! If you are not a member - please don't let that stop you from attending our meeting - as often as you like. Our membership dues are roughly $100 per year. The funds from these dues are used to support our national headquarters, our national newsletter, our local newsletter, meeting expenses, etc. If you are a vendor and you would like to assist the chapter you have two opportunities. You can have someone in your organization join AITP as your representative. You can also sponsor a dinner meeting by covering the cost (about $100). If anyone has any questions about any of this please call me.
Clearly Austin has many great organizations. But Austin is ready for an IT organization which reflects the city's new high technology character. We are all working very hard to be that organization. I invite you to join us, and to be a part of our development and growth.
See you next Tuesday!
Best Regards,
Russ Finney
